Proton is giving journalists affiliated with Reporters Without Borders(RSF) free access to its ProtonVPN Plus and ProtonMail Plus services.
“Today, independent journalism is being attacked in ways it has never been before,” adds Proton . “Governments all across the world are employing censorship and intimidation to silence opposition, and we all have a responsibility to protect these vital liberties. RSF’s objective to assist journalists in giving everyone with open access to correct information is critical.”
“RSF-affiliated journalists who work in crisis zones or under repressive regimes” would get free ProtonVPN Plus and ProtonMail Plus access, according to the business. In this situation, the former is intended to assist users in circumventing official internet usage prohibitions, while the latter is intended to provide journalists with a more secure means of communicating with sources in these high-risk zones.
ProtonVPN has the finest free membership levels we’ve encountered, and its paid tiers provide access to a variety of privacy tools at a reasonable price, according to our assessment. It’s an Editors’ Choice winner and one of our Best Tech Products of 2021 choices.
As part of this collaboration, Proton says it will send representatives to “RSF workshops and seminars to instruct journalists on how to defend themselves from cyberthreats, avoid online surveillance, and bypass censorship.” Finally, through the Proton Lifetime Charity Fundraiser in 2021, the business intends to generate funds for a number of RSF activities.
This campaign will essentially be a raffle, with six winners receiving lifetime access to Proton‘s services. The company says it would match up to $100,000 in donations made during the fundraiser, which runs from December 13 to December 28. All revenues will go to RSF to support its Berlin Scholarship Program, Digital Security Lab, and Assistance programs.
