The Mac Studio is a new desktop from Apple designed for creative workers

The Mac Studio is a desktop machine that looks like a Mac Mini on the exterior but has a lot more power on the inside, according to Apple. Apple’s M1 Max microprocessor is included in the Mac Studio, as well as a new, even more powerful processor called the M1 Ultra. Although it appears to be identical to the Mac Mini, Apple boasts that the new device will be faster than the Mac Pro.

The chassis is 3.7 inches tall, according to Apple, and it “fits well under most displays” while remaining silent under heavy load. Four Thunderbolt 4 connections are located on the back, along with a 10Gb Ethernet port, two USB-A connectors, an HDMI port, and an audio jack. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 are both supported. Two USB-C connections (10 Gbps on M1 Max systems, 40 Gbps/Thunderbolt 4 on M1 Ultra systems) and an SD card slot are located on the front. According to Apple, the Mac Studio can accommodate up to four Pro Display XDRs and a 4K TV.

According to Apple, the Mac Studio with M1 Max will give 50 percent greater CPU performance than a 16-core Xeon Mac Pro and 2.5 times faster CPU performance than a 27-inch iMac with a 10-core Core i9. According to reports, the M1 Ultra configuration offers 3.8 times the CPU performance of the 27-inch iMac and is up to 90% faster than the 16-core Mac Pro.

The M1 Ultra is a colossal chip that can hold up to 128GB of memory. It has a 64-core GPU and a 32-core neural engine, as well as a 20-core CPU with 16 high-performance cores and four efficiency cores. It’s “almost” eight times faster than the M1, which drives the current Mac Mini, according to Apple.

Apple’s Studio Display, an external display that was also announced today, is compatible with the Studio. The Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K panel with a brightness of 600 nits and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. Additional connectors on the back of this display include three USB-C ports and a Thunderbolt 4 port. Nano-texture glass, as well as numerous stands and mounting solutions, are available as options.

The Mac Studio with M1 Max will cost $1,999, while the M1 Ultra will cost $3,999. The price of the Studio Display is $1,599. All of the items are available for preorder now and will be delivered on March 18th. The 27-inch iMac looks to have been discontinued, although the Mac Pro and Mac Mini will continue to be marketed.
